LaPazions, I know many of you have heard this term “Signature Style or Brand” before but, you may be wondering what exactly does this mean? Is this just for celebrities? How would you go about developing or identifying your “Signature Style?”
Lovely’s fret no more because I’m going to do my best in breaking this down and giving you a few simple steps to start off with to identify and help you understand what all this means, as well as, where to start. I like to define “Signature Style” as the icing on a well-refined, curated wardrobe that give a little insight into your persona, personality and vibe. I help my clients be them A-listers, corporate executives, socialites or housewives/husbands build, develop and understand what is the key elements of identifying and building their “Signature Style.”
Developing and building your “signature style” requires more than just a quick run to the mall or stores, riffling through racks, gathering, trying on and returning merchandise. It takes FORETHOUGHT
What is this “Signature Style?”: It’s almost like your personal calling card via your wardrobe (almost like a uniform). Your signature style or signature look represents your inner stylista/stylisto, the essence of your style or brand, it’s what identifies YOU when people picture or speak of you.
Great examples of this, would be like Anna Wintour, Taylor Swift or better yet Kim Kardashian (be it if you like her or not) she most definitely has a “signature style/look” for herself as well as, the other ladies mentioned:
Celebrities understand the idea behind “Signature Style” it all goes with their brand, and many individuals don’t realize, that they have a brand. You have to understand that creating a “signature style” isn’t anything new. Think back to style icons like Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe:
These three ladies had a strong “signature style” one that emphasized their public personas but, also gave us a glimpse at their vibe, creativity and touches of their personalities. I have my own “Signature Style” and many who know me in the industry, can tell you it right off the bat. I wear black most of the time with pops of color with my handbags, shoes, scarves or my rather large accessories.. LOL!!
My brand let’s you know that I’m very fashion forward, reserved, professional and it also give you a glimpse that I can also have fun with those quirky little touches that I like to add.
When you’re developing your “signature style” you should take your time, look through as many style magazines, Pinterest or even while you are out- take notice of individuals that you feel have the same vibe that you want or have. Take notice of how they pair certain materials with others, how they wear their shoes, ties, handbags or whatever speaks to your style identity.
Developing a “signature style” gives definition of quality-You want a clear definition and not one that is so broad or giving a feeling of a kaleidoscope. Meaning, if you are all over the page with your “signature style” it let’s others know that you are confused, not sure of who or what direction you really want to go.. Developing a Clear well defined “signature style” signifies a considerable way of self-knowledge, self-esteem, you know who you are, what you’d like people to take away or know. It also shows and signifies your authenticity, enhances what you’re bringing to the table style wise. (Very IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure that this look is YOU-It’s flattering to emulate someone but, it’s not flattering to become or steal someone else’s identity).
I hope I’ve given you a little insight into what and why having a “Signature style” is so important.
